Join the NAACP petition to End Government Shutdown

Brothers of Omega, The length of this government shutdown is unprecedented and marks the longest impasse in our nation’s history. Today, more than 800,000 federal employees and contractors are still out of work and employees deemed “essential” are being required to work without pay. Millions of Americans remain unable to access government services critical to their daily lives.

We applaud the efforts of the new House of Representatives in passing legislation to reopen the government. While the debate is focused on border security, the cost to our nation and its institutions is mounting as the safety around critical infrastructure, such as airports and waterways, deteriorates as the shutdown drags on. African-American families in some of the most underserved communities are forced to bear the burden of a series of decisions that have been made. It is unacceptable that members of our Fraternity and families are reevaluating how they will pay mortgages, utility bills and/or feed their families in a country that is deemed the flagship of democracy and heralded as the beacon of hope.

Thus, the Brothers of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, urge the White House and Senate to work with the newly elected House to come to agreeable terms that reflect the values of this country and the American people. Please stand with us, the NAACP and other organizations to urge an end to the government shutdown.
