Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated To Donate $15K to Elizabeth City State University - Grand Basileus to Host Founders Day Scholarship Gala IX


Atlanta, GA (March 9, 2016) Antonio F. Knox, Sr., 40th Grand Basileus of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated will serve as the Master of Ceremony for the 2016 Founders Day Scholarship Gala IX at Elizabeth City State University on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. A black tie affair, the University celebrates 125 years of History in the Making and will recognize the contributions of former first ladies as esteemed Honorees of the Chancellor's Legacy Award. The Gala will be held in the K.E. White Center.

First lady Angela Knox will accompany the Grand Basileus along with other members from the Sixth District. The distinguished Honorees include Mrs. Lula G. Thorpe (1968-1983), Dr. Faleese Moore Jenkins (1983-1995), Mrs. Lavera Levels Burnim (1995-2006), Mrs. Jacqueline Gilchrist (2007-2013), and Mrs. Brenda Becton (2013-2014). The Founders Day Convocation will be held on Friday, March 11, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Mickey L. Burnim Fine Arts Center with Dr. Conway as the Convocation Speaker.

The Fraternity is proud to lend support to the dynamic work of the University and distinguished member, Dr. Thomas E. H. Conway, Eleventh Chief Executive Office and Sixth Chancellor. The Grand Basileus will present a $15K gift of support to the endowment of the University. He stated, "Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated is very honored to provide this gift of financial assistance to help propel the progressive work forward of educating outstanding students across stellar programs and respective disciplines toward college degrees. Omega is a continuous advocate of assisting the work of historically black colleges and universities around the nation. We are proud to stand with Brother Conway, a stellar educator and committed member of the Fraternity. His excellence, professionalism and powerful leadership will most certainly help guide the University into the next great Chapter, further building on their proud and historic legacy."

Since its humble beginnings on the Howard University campus, the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity continues to be on the front line, leveraging its power, influence and more than 100 years of commitment to the uplift of our people and our communities.

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. was founded on November 17, 1911, at Howard University in Washington, D.C., and is the first international fraternal organization to be founded on the campus of a historically black college.
